Lapwing Field
CONTROLS
- WSAD to move
- X to fly
- Spacebar to talk
Also, the game should be about 3 minutes long.
REGRETS AND BUGS
- The hawk inside the bush has multiple dialogues (sorry if you got stuck here). It was meant to be like those NPCs you have to talk multiple times, but now I feel like that only works for long games like Silksong.
- So there are a few bugs, including one that breaks the game (I call it "talking while flying"). It's a bug caused by a badly designed system of player states.
- The other bug is related to collisions (in concave corners). I decided I wasn't going to spend hours trying to come up with a perfect collision system.
- The hitbox of the lapwing is too small. Again, this is my fault for making a terrible hitbox system (I'd need to change the hitbox of 9 individual sprites)
FINAL STATEMENT
- Overall I had quite a good time with this. I have never done pixel arts before, so figuring out how pixel arts worked was a challenge.
- I feel like I have done almost everything I wanted to do: a simple game of a lapwing (Vanellus chilensis) interacting with hawks (Parabuteo unicinctus).
DISCLAIMER
- I didn't use ANY AI tool, not even google summaries for this, which I'm quite fond of. Also, I'm really scared of AI making me lazy.
- All sounds and the song were made by me in FL Studio exclusively for this project.
- The only audio that isn't mine is the lapwing noise in the background. That was taken (illegally) from eBird: https://media.ebird.org/catalog?birdOnly=true&taxonCode=soulap1&mediaType=audio&.... I promise not to do this in the future.
- I believe this is the font I used (I think it's the one that we got recommended. I didn't really change it): https://fonts.google.com/specimen/Press+Start+2P.
